About us in English

Our aim is to use the many facets of football to impart political knowledge to young people and to encourage them to participate actively in society.
In our learning centres, young people develop an awareness for democratic values through our educational resources and make the experience that their opinions are valued. This process teaches them that it is personally more rewarding to be a committed and eloquent individual than despondent and voiceless.

Using football enthusiasm for the civic education of young people and transforming the stadium into the most awesome classroom in the world – this is the motivating idea behind Lernort Stadion. It is currently being implemented in 26 different learning centres throughout Germany – in the context of socio-educational fan projects, professional clubs and stadiums. Since 2014, Lernort Stadion e.V. as the umbrella organisation for these learning locations, has been committed to „education on the ball“.
Lernort Stadion e.V. promotes and connects the work activities of the locations and implements innovative projects in the field of extracurricular education that focus on the fascination of football. As an umbrella organisation, we advise our members, organise further education and networking events, evaluate the projects regularly and develop concepts, materials and teaching aids for practical use. In this way, we ensure the consistently high quality of educational work on site.

Lernort Stadion e.V. develops innovative national and international model projects and handles their financing. The focus is always on the promotion of democracy and participation. Thus, in cooperation with partners in Germany and other European countries, a variety of target groups are reached and thematic focuses are set.
In 2018, we launched „Kick for Europe“, a series of youth exchange encounters in which young participants from various European countries come together in the stadium to deal with European policy issues such as right-wing populism, migration and integration. Further international projects are currently being planned.

The activities offered by the learning centres are particularly aimed at young people aged 14 to 18. In workshops and project weeks, the participants deal with various topics such as discrimination, fair play, violence and conflict prevention. Our experience proves that young people can be reached and inspired through appreciation, a diversity of methods and learning in a motivating stadium location. We co-operate increasingly with external and international education projects. In this way we are able to maintain and expand a wide range of relevant topics, innovative methods and unbiased input.

The international projects of Lernort Stadion promote European democratic values and European citizenship. Through a steadily growing network of partners from football, youth work, intercultural learning as well as formal and non-formal education all over Europe, the approach of Lernort Stadion is widened by international perspectives.

Kick for Europe is a project that has been established in 2019 and is funded by the German Foreign Office. It is centered around European youth exchanges with participants from Germany, Poland, Austria, UK, Portugal and Spain.

The project Une-Deux//Doppelpass, funded by the Franco-German Youth Office and put into practice in collaboration with Rue de la Mémoire, combines in an innovative way civic education, rememberance work, football and comics from a German-French perspective. It’s activities center around youth exchanges as well as the development of a pedagogical concept and the training of trainers.
